St. Johns Learning Center

Part of the St. Johns Unified School District

 (928)337-2221 ext. 1208

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is the St. Johns Learning Center separate from the St. Johns High School?

Yes. The St. Johns School Board voted to create a fourth school here in St. Johns aimed at serving those students who are not enrolled in SJHS. The SJLC is separate in almost every way.

Do Students at the SJLC still have the opportunity to participate in NAVIT and Sports?

Yes. SJLC is separate in almost every way. Two of the remaining connections enable students to participate in NAVIT and they are encouraged to participate in athletics. These provide great opportunities for students to be successful, and success is what SJLC is all about.

Isn't SJLC just another "online" school like the charters?

No. SJLC is modeled after a program that has been in use by other districts in Arizona for more than a decade. The program has an 'online' computer based element, but it is supplemented with research and projects aimed at helping students find connections between what they are learning and what they can use that knowledge to accomplish.

Where will SJLC be located?

The St. Johns School District has successfully bid to purchase the old Northland Pioneer College building on 13th St. (currently housing the St. Johns Police Department). This will provide an excellent facility to house the program.

Can anyone enroll in SJLC?

The program was created to serve students not enrolled in the St. Johns High School. With this in mind there is an enrollment process. Packets are available, and after filling out the application there is an interview aimed at identifying how the student will be best served by the program and if it is appropriate to their needs.

Can I do work at home while enrolled in SJLC?

There is a homework component which requires some work to be done at home, but there is also the ability for students to do some of their work at home. Determining what is best for the student would be part of the interview process, but we have a variety of tools we can use to help students succeed.
